All students are expected to attend and participate in person at the assigned day/time. (F2F) Most film survey courses attempt to compress decades and decades of cinema in a semester’s worth of classes. In this classroom experiment in film historiography, we will take the more modest approach of investigating only one year of film history: 1970. We will read about a diverse array of film practices from around the world and across taste cultures; we will watch narrative features, from Russ Meyer’s Beyond the Valley of the Dolls to Jean-Luc Godard’s Le Vent d’Est; we will also watch documentaries, essay films, experimental shorts, and sundry other pieces of moving image culture from one of the most cataclysmic years in modern history. Associated Term: Spring 2024 Registration Dates: Oct 26, 2023 to Jan 18, 2024 Levels: Graduate Main Campus Lecture Schedule Type 3.000 Credits View Catalog Entry
